NavMap (the Connect IQ watch app) and NavBridge (the Android companion app) provide turn-by-turn guidance and map display on supported Garmin AMOLED smartwatches using Google Maps navigation notifications from your Android device.
1. Privacy and Data Handling
- Your Location Data: NavBridge asks for your express, prior, revocable consent before obtaining or transmitting your location coordinates. Location data is ephemeral and used solely to fetch static map images and route lines for your current navigation session.
- Where Data is Sent: Location coordinates and route requests are sent directly to Google Maps Platform APIs using your own Google Cloud API key. NavBridge does not transmit your location, routes, destinations, or navigation history to any third-party servers, analytics providers, or to NavMap's developers.
- No Tracking or History: NavBridge and NavMap do not store or track where you have been. No route history or location log is recorded on your device or externally.
- Diagnostics and Crash Reports: To identify bugs and improve stability, anonymous crash reports and operational diagnostics (e.g., route request failures and connection drops) are collected through Google Firebase Crashlytics. No personal route destinations, names, or passwords are ever collected.
- Revocation: You can withdraw your consent at any time inside NavBridge by opening the app and tapping Withdraw consent under Privacy and terms. NavBridge immediately clears all stored coordinates from memory, and the watch forgets your key and active route line.
2. Permissions
- Notification Access: NavBridge requires notification listener access solely to read turn directions, distances, and ETAs from Google Maps' active navigation notification. No other app notifications are read or processed.
- Location Permission (Optional): If granted, phone location is used only to determine the starting point when sharing a destination directly to NavBridge. Otherwise, the watch's onboard GPS position is used.
3. Third-Party Services and Terms
NavMap incorporates features and content from Google Maps Platform. Your use of NavMap and NavBridge is subject to: - Google Maps End User Additional Terms of Service - Google Privacy Policy
4. Safety Disclaimer
Always exercise caution and prioritize road safety. NavMap is designed for quick glances; do not interact with or touch the watch or phone while operating a vehicle, bicycle, or motorcycle. Comply with all local traffic laws and regulations regarding electronic devices.
5. Independence and Trademarks
NavMap and NavBridge are independent open-source projects. They are not made by, affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Google LLC or Garmin Ltd. - Google Maps and Android are trademarks of Google LLC. - Garmin and Forerunner are trademarks of Garmin Ltd. or its subsidiaries.
